This 30th August, we celebrated World Kitchen Garden day! Kitchen Garden Day is an annual, decentralized celebration of delicious foods produced on a human scale.
If you haven’t done so yet, this is a fantastic opportunity to start your own kitchen garden and enjoy the multiple pleasures and benefits of home-grown, organic foods.
We give you three reasons to start your own kitchen garden:
- Wholesome Goodness – Nutrition and tastier food!
Those of you who have tasted the crispness of a freshly picked cucumber and sweetness of a perfect orange pumpkin from a home garden, would agree that the taste and quality is unrivaled to that obtained from a market. Many studies also demonstrate that organic food has more nutrients and is definitely less harmful than food grown with inorganic pesticides and fertilizers.
- Money: Save money
With increasing prices of fruits and vegetables, a home garden will help reduce your monthly grocery bill.
- Reduce your Carbon Footprint
You may ask, how does a kitchen garden help reduce my carbon footprint? Well, the food obtained from your organic garden will have less food miles. Food miles is distance that food is transported as it travels from producer to consumer. By simply choosing food that is local, you reduce your food miles and drastically reduce your carbon footprint.
Not only that, your garden is a great way to beautify your balcony and society.
