How about planting a tree this summer?

Planting trees is an easy and effective way to beautify your property, provide shade in summer and wind protection in winter! It is a silviculture activity also called as reforestation.

Since a tree is such a visible part of the landscape and more importantly, it does help the environment in many many ways, care must be taken to ensure proper growth conditions are maintained. So pick your spot and get the digging tools out! Local markets sell seeds as well as other tools to get going. You can even try with fruits and vegetables from home, see if they can yield! Dig a hole that is in the open, away from other roots and is close enough to visit once a day. If in your garden, once planted, you must make sure it gets water to thrive off and sunlight to bathe under!

Alternatively, you may want to plant a tree in the open, leaving it exposed to the elements! For that you need a safe spot near other trees. You may have to water it for a week to jumpstart the process of growth! Fortunately for eco-friendly people that may find it hard to commit, there are campaigns all over the world that help you contribute conveniently! The soon to be launched Plant-a-Million campaign by the Fern Ecotel Hotel is one such initiative that will turn Jaipur, Rajasthan from pink to green!

It is clearly known why one must plant trees. They give us the fruits, vegetables, shade and beauty. In fact most of our food comes from them! As plants and trees grow, they release life giving oxygen in the air while using up the carbon dioxide that speeds up global warming! Trees are, therefore, friendly beings that need to flourish all around to make earth cooler and richer.

So do not be afraid to do your bit, because each tree makes a difference. A great way to get started is to dedicate a sapling to a loved one, name it even! Try it.
